Catching Up - February Edition

Okay, so, I’ve been busy over the past few weeks since the new year began, and I can’t say I want to apologize for being gone so long because that would indicate that I’m actually sorry. Sometimes you have to grind in silence before you get the chance to inform of your successes or failures.

So, in that vein, here’s what’s been going on with me over the past few weeks:

I, unfortunately, was unable to make the cut for the NAACP Image Awards. I honestly thought that my latest, Love, Lust & Beautiful Liars, would have been strong enough to make the cut, but when put up against such competition, it became more of a coin flip than anything. There’s always next year!

I have been setting up distribution deals for my catalog over the last few months through my agent, and I am happy to say, I have been able to consummate a deal with a larger distributor, with national and international reach, and I’m extremely happy about the future dividends that move will yield.

I’ve had to do some adjustments to my catalog, speaking of such. My South Hampton series has been re-branded under the Shakir umbrella, which means that PK Rashaan is no more. After speaking with a few more experienced people in the industry, I agreed that it was a better decision to make, business-wise. It will keep the focus under one name, and I still have the freedom to do what I need to expand my NEBU Universe the way I see fit. It’s okay, though; I honestly thought I was doing the right thing at the time, but times, they are a changing.

In light of social media becoming a bit less open and inviting when it comes to people who like to be a bit sexier with their content, I’m making the move to house a whole community inside my site. I’m trying to figure out how that will look, and once I do make the move, it will take my time away from conventional social media in order to keep things rolling over there.

I’ll be announcing more exciting news in the coming weeks (which is why I’ve been so neglectful of the blogging, but I’ll try to balance out the best I can). In the meantime, take care of yourself, take care of yours, protect yourself and others, and I’ll see you soon.

Shakir
